| Criminal Justice Police Act Becomes Law14 May 2001 Press Comment
The Criminal Justice Police Act is yet another disappointing erosion of our civil liberties by this Labour Government and this Parliament. Agreements to review the position, in five years, of putting innocent people on a DNA database, are little comfort for those who may be innocently accused before then. From the erosions of rights in police stations to the prevention of free movement of teenagers on the streets, this Act is a powerful demonstration of this Government's desire to increase the state's power over the individual. The Government that brought in the Human Rights Act should be ashamed of this total erosion of our civil liberties.
