| Liberty comment on Guantanamo Bay detainees11 Jul 2003 Commenting on reports that the Government is seeking the extradition to Britain of Moazzam Begg and Feroz Abbasi, Shami Chakrabarti, Liberty’s in-house Counsel, said:
‘We welcome the news that the British Government is actively seeking to have the two detainees extradited back to the UK to face trial. I’m heartened by reports that Ministers accept that the two men should be tried, by a Judge and Jury, in an open court, and be allowed full legal representation.
I also hope that they will now turn their attention to the fate of those foreign nationals who have been held indefinitely in UK prisons under anti-terrorism legislation. They too, must be either released or given an open, and fair, trial
