| Schoolgirl allowed to return to class02 May 2003 Liberty has welcomed today's High Court ruling allowing Elena Grice to return to her classes at the Helena Romanes School in Braintree, Essex.
Elena had been excluded for thirty days following her behaviour in organising an anti-war demo outside her school in March. The court ruled that the punishment was disproportionate and the terms of her exclusion have been altered to ensure Elena is not barred from vital revision classes in the run-up to her GCSEs.
Liberty lawyer Shami Chakrabarti said:
"The most important thing was to get Elena back into her classes as soon as possible. We're delighted that has been achieved. We wish Elena every success with her upcoming exams and hope that her life can now return to normal."
