| Taser stungun 'trials' - Liberty comment17 Apr 2003 John Wadham, director of Liberty, says: These weapons must be medically proven safe before their introduction - there are serious concerns about their safety and there should be thorough independent testing in the UK before these weapons are 'tested' on the public.
"If stunguns can safely tackle people who would otherwise be shot, then that's a welcome improvement. But this must only be about reducing the force used by police, not about escalating armouries. The police have a clear duty only ever to use the minimum necessary force: these weapons should only be used where firearms are the only other option".
