Commenting on today's report, Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty, said:
'Liberty welcomes the suggestion for 'positive vetting' of all those wishing to work with children. Above all we need an efficient system that gives maximum protection to children.
Sensitive information about individuals would be available only to those responsible for the vetting. There would, of course there would have to be adequate safeguards to prevent people from becoming the victims of groundless gossip.'
