  • Whistleblower speaks in public for first time since trial

  • 14 Sep 2004
  • 12.45pm, 15th September, Meeting Room 2 (Hall B East) Brighton Conference Centre
  • Katharine Gun, the GCHQ whistleblower, will tomorrow make her first public appearance since the collapse, earlier this year, of her Old Bailey trial. She had been charged with a breach of the Official Secrets Act after revealing that the USA had asked GCHQ to spy on delegates to the UN.

Katharine will reveal details of a new ‘federation’ of whistleblowers from around the world and will urge people in a situation similar to her own, to have the courage of their convictions.

She will be appearing at a Liberty fringe meeting at the TUC conference in Brighton.

Other speakers will include Brendan Barber, TUC General Secretary and Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty.

Journalists contact Barry Hugill, Liberty director of communications on 020 7378 3656, or Daniela Manske in the press office on 020 7378 3677
