In a crucially important decision for future government policy the law lords today ruled that detaining without trial non-British nationals is unlawful.

Liberty are absolutely delighted by this decision and hope that the new Home Secretary will now act promptly to end the policy of detention without trial.

By acting as judge, jury and jailer, the Government has flouted the very values it claims to defend. It must now act honourably and charge or release all those currently held.
