| Liberty responds to Davis' calls to scrap Human Rights Act05 Oct 2005 In response to the Shadow Home Secretary’s announcement that the Human Rights Act is a threat to fundamental human rights, Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty, said:
“This shallow and cheap shot was unworthy of Mr. Davis and we suspect that many Conservatives feel the same way.
How do you stand up for freedom whilst trashing the Human Rights framework promoted by Winston Churchill after the war?
Perhaps he should explain which specific human right he would like to scrap- the right to privacy, free speech or the right to a fair trial.”
