Noting the robust criticisms of the Government’s identity cards policy by the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty said:

"The JCHR is meticulous in pointing out the numerous flaws in the Identity Card Bill. These are particularly concerning in a constitutional measure of such significance. The Government would be wise not to attempt to rush this Bill through the House of Lords."
