  • Jesse Jackson opposes Prevention of Terrorism Bill

  • 10 Mar 2005
  • The Reverend Jesse Jackson, US civil rights campaigner, today gave his support for the campaign against the Government’s anti-terror proposals.

Joining thousands of others in signing a statement of opposition, Reverend Jackson said:

“Neither the US nor the UK Government has proved itself trustworthy enough to conduct democracy by secret intelligence”.

Welcoming Reverend Jackson’s support Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, said:

“Liberty is delighted that Reverend Jackson, the United States' foremost Civil Rights campaigner, has endorsed our campaign. He joins us at one of the most perilous moments in our constitutional history.”
