| Control orders pave the way for future miscarraiges of justice09 Feb 2005 Responding to the Prime Minister’s apology to those wrongly convicted of the Guildford pub bombings and Charles Clarke’s refusal to rule out ‘Control Orders’ for people suspected of terrorist offences Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, said:
“On the day when the Prime Minister apologises for past miscarriages of justice his Government is paving the way for many future injustices.
"The proposal to bring in house arrest for those suspected of terrorism is the latest in a long line of assaults on the right to a fair trial.
“The Government should drop this proposal and make sure that future Prime Ministers have less reason to apologise.”
