| Opposition grows to new anti-terror proposals11 Feb 2005 Responding to news of growing opposition to the Government’s new anti-terror proposals amongst the police and security services, Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, said:
"It’s no surprise that growing numbers in the security community oppose internment. They've seen it fail in the past and want to uphold and not destroy the rule of law."
"With or without formal 'house arrest', the growing consensus is that control orders will not work. Where does a curfew end and house arrest begin? Justice and security are both best served by evidence, charges and trials."
The news was carried in the Daily Mail on Friday 11th February 2005.
