  • Human Rights Award Winners 2007

    Winners at the 2007 ceremony

The Human Rights Awards are held jointly in December by Liberty, JUSTICE and the Law Society to commemorate Human Rights Day.

See the 2008 Human Rights award-winners.

The ceremony aims to recognise and encourage individuals and organisations whose work is dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of the others.

Too often, this dedication goes unrecognised. Our event aims to provide an opportunity to celebrate these exceptional organisations and individuals.

    What are the award categories?

    The Peter Duffy Award*

For individuals such as campaigners, lawyers, activists or academics
    aged 35 or under.

    The Human Rights Award

    For organisations and non-legal individuals.

Human Rights Lawyer of the Year

For solicitors, barristers, legal executives, trainees, pupils, legal academics and judges.

    * The Peter Duffy Award commemorates the life and achievements of one of the UK's most dedicated human rights lawyers. Peter Duffy QC was particularly supportive of younger lawyers, giving freely of his time and skills. Much of his human rights work was done pro bono for organisations including Liberty and JUSTICE.
