    Josh Casswell completed the
    Kinabalu Challenge for Liberty

Whether it be a skydive, a run, or a dog-walk, you can use (almost!) any event to raise money. At Liberty in the last year we've jumped out of planes and walked miles with lawyers, all to raise funds.

You can help us raise funds. Whatever you'd like to do, please consider doing it in aid of Liberty, or the Civil Liberties Trust.

    Supporting Others

In February 2006 and 2007, two dedicated Liberty supporters took part in sponsored events helping to raise vital funds in the process. So, who are these two, brave and dedicated Liberty supporters?

    Malcolm James

Malcolm James ran for The Civil Liberties Trust in The Sussex Beacon Half Marathon on Sunday  18th February. The Sussex Beacon Half Marathon is fast becoming the South East's premier running event  - in 2006 the race attracted over 4100 entrants from across the country.
The 13 mile all road route provided a unique opportunity to run through the streets of Brighton - past the Brighton Pavilion, through the Lanes and alongside the award winning Jubilee Library. This is the first half marathon that Malcolm has taken part in but he is already planning for his next one. Malcolm said:

“The training was hard but when I crossed the finish line it all felt worth it. I completed the 13.2 miles in 1:58:00, which is an hour slower than the world record but a personal best for me! The hardest part was the last mile where I really had to push myself to keep going, knowing that I was doing it for such a great organisation really helped me and the support from the cheering crowds allowed me to push through that final barrier. It was an amazing day and I can’t wait to do it all again.”

Josh Casswell completed the Kinabalu Challenge in aid of The Civil Liberties Trust.

Set deep in the jungles of Borneo, the Kinabalu Challenge is a five day adventure race bringing together hundreds of people. During the event, sixteen teams complete a series of daily physical and mental challenges including abseiling, trekking, kayaking, white-water rafting and a tough mountain ascent. The event took place from 23 February – 3 March 2007. Josh spent six months training for the event. Josh said:

“I signed up for the Kinabalu Challenge primarily for the experiences it would offer me and because it was the kind of event, physical endeavour in an exotic land that I'd always wanted to do.

Despite the heat, humidity and intense schedule of events, I thought the whole challenge was pretty successful for me and my team. We achieved a moral fourth place (out of twelve) and worked well together, even if I had to - now and then - keep my mouth shut! Looking back, apart from feeling tired, I feel mostly pride at tackling the challenge head on and satisfaction in pushing myself to the finish.”

The company Josh works for agreed to match the sponsorship he received, pound for pound.
