Liberty (the National Council for Civil Liberties) is registered with the Information Commissioner for the United Kingdom. Liberty’s processing and retention of personal information is governed by the Data Protection Act 1998.
As a non-profit civil liberties and human rights organisation Liberty is committed to protecting and promoting individual privacy.
What kind of information do we collect? The type and amount of information we collect depends on how you use the website. You can access all pages on the site without telling us who you are and without revealing any personal information.
We collect three types of information:
(1) anonymous data that is automatically collected from all visitors
(2) personal data that visitors voluntarily submit so that we can provide you with a service
(3) financial data that visitors voluntarily submit to pay a membership fee, make a donation, order merchandise or publications
Anonymous Data. When you visit our site, we collect some non-personally identifiable information including the browsers visitors use, what time they visited and which pages are most viewed. This enables us evaluate the site and work to improve it. We do not link any anonymous data with Personal Data you may provide to us.
Personal Data. We only collect personally identifiable information (name, address, etc) when you participate in the following activities:
• joining or renewing your Liberty membership
• making a donation to support Liberty
• ordering merchandise or publications
• contacting us via the contact and feedback form
Your personal information will be kept by Liberty in a secure environment, and will only be used in association with the ongoing support of your membership, donation, or order.
Liberty will not pass this information on to anyone else.
Financial Data. We use two secure payment gateways, WorldPay and Justgiving.
When making an online donation, joining or renewing a Liberty membership, or placing an order, your payment details are processed by
WorldPay.
When you make a payment, WorldPay asks for your name, address, phone, email address, and credit/debit card information. This information is used to process your payment and to verify credit/debit card data.
Your credit/debit card details will only be retained by WorldPay and its acquiring bank. In the case of a suspected fraudulent transaction, card details may be disclosed to the Liberty for the sole purpose of performing further checks.
If you make a secure online donation to the Civil Liberties Trust, you go through to
Justgiving.
When you make a payment, Justgiving collects your name, your declaration of tax status, your credit/debit card information and your address. This information is used to process your payment and to verify credit/debit card data, and will only be retained by Justgiving and its acquiring bank.
Note about Servers Liberty reminds visitors that most Internet Service Providers maintain records of all URL’s visited by their customers. Visitors should contact their ISP for more information.
